The tourists are leaving Italy. Now catastrophe looms

My Things
Maria Pasquale, CNN • Updated 13th September 2020 Rome (CNN) — For all too brief a time, the Italian summer offered a glimmer of hope. After emerging from what was in early 2020, one of the world's harshest coronavirus lockdowns, Italy managed to dust itself down in time to welcome visitors. But as the sun begins to cool, so do hopes of a full recovery for Italy's decimated 2020 tourism season. Winter is coming, and with it what is expected to be a full-blown economic catastrophe. The Italian government, like many across the world, has been doling out cash to help support many ailing businesses and individuals, but with many global travel restrictions still in place, lost revenues from the country's faltering travel industry leaves a gaping ...

ABDULLAHSEPTEMBER 12, 2020 The Well-known Youtuber EverythingApplePro has posted a video of the iPhone 12 Pro chassis. The design has confirmed previous leaks regarding the design of the next-generation iPhone. It has a flat-ended body (judging by the chassis, shiny). In addition to a camera module design from the iPhone 11 Pro with a LiDAR sensor added to the corner. And support for 5G. Recall that the next presentation of Apple will take place on September 15, but the iPhone announcement on it is unlikely – most likely, it will be presented at a separate event in October. APPLE HAS ALREADY STARTED THE MASS PRODUCTION OF THE IPHONE 12 There are a few days left before the Apple presentation, and the company is preparing for it. According to the new information, Ap...

In the two years I’ve worked for Gizmodo, I have struggled to identify a workstation more sadistic, more unhinged than the 18-million-pixel Craigslist rig that my colleague Tom McKay once reviewed (and for which Gizmodo paid real, actual money—a fact I frankly still find astonishing). But today, Gizmodo’s senior consumer tech editor, Alex “Tiny Hands” Cranz, dropped something in Slack so truly cursed I couldn’t help but appreciate its inherent chaos. Behold: A triple-monitor PC setup inspired but what is inarguably the worst creature on Earth: Setting aside for a moment that few of us actually have adequate room in our homes to hou...

John BiggsToday 9:30AM•Filed to:ACCUTRON SPACEVIEW 2020 REVIEW6Save The 1960s were an interstitial time when it came to technology. Not quite computerized, the world hovered between the mechanical and the digital, computers clacking out commands onto old teletypes while Nixie tubes - essentially glowing wires in a vacuum - ran the countdowns for rickety spacecraft that had more in common with Magellan than with Musk. The 1965 Accutron Spaceview was a product of that strange time. One of the first “electronic” watches, the timepiece used a small tuning fork to vibrate at 360-hertz to drive the hands across the face. Produced in a time before quartz crystals were in common use, the watch literally hummed on your wrist, a mechanical/electric hybrid of a thing that was a b...

US budget deficit soars to $3tn record

News
The US budget deficit has hit a record high of more than $3tn (£2.3tn), driven by the government's massive spending on coronavirus relief. The federal government spent more than $6tn in the first 11 months of its financial year, including $2tn on coronavirus programmes, the Treasury Department said. The figure outpaces the $3tn it took in from taxes. The shortfall is more than double the previous full-year record, set in 2009. At the time, Washington was grappling with the aftermath of the 2008 housing financial crisis. Even before the pandemic, the US was on track to run a deficit of more than $1tn this year - large by historic standards. But the spending approved to try to cushion the financial impact of the virus has exploded those projections. The Congres...
